Native Son by Richard Wright Flim part 2

Summary:
1. There was a close up shot were Mr.Dalton was talking to Bigger about the pamphlets. He seemed pretty disgusted him.
2. There was another close up on Bigger, when he was thinking about what was going on in his life at that point in time.
3. Mid shot when Bigger and Mr.Dalton were discussing the fact that he couldn't find his daughter.

Quote:?

Reaction: Most of the important shots in this half were close ups because they really showed the emotions of the characters, and at this point and time the characters were mad, and one was sad about his life which was Bigger. The mid shot that had Bigger and Mr.Dalton in it talking about his daughter was a powerful scene, because it showed the emotion that both character had for each other in this scene. What I mean by that is Mr.Dalton wasn't a fan of Bigger at this time, and Bigger took on the challenge of trying to explain everything to man that was pretty mad at him. So to summary it the second half of the movie showed more emotion, and give the audience a more of connection with movie, based off the struggles Bigger had.

Native Son by Richard Wright Flim part 1

Summary:
1. At the start of the film, it has a long shot where you can see the city of Chicago, and what it has to offer. Such as the skyscapers, and many other buildings that are in the area. It shows you the water fountains, and people walking on the streets, to show how inviting the place looks.
2.At the part where the mother, and the lady that is trying to help bigger find a job, it is a Over the shoulder shot. At that point the lady is saying her good bye's.
3. There is a close of shot were bigger, is saying the job he is getting isnt for him, it is really showing the expressions on his face.
4. There is slight chance in the book and the movie, where it said bigger stormed out the house, in the movie he just walked out slowly.
5. There is another over the shoulder shot when Bigger is walking into Mr.Dalton's office, and he is saying Good Morning.
6. Close up shot on Mr.Dalton, when he is making the decision to hire Bigger or not, you can see the thinking process, by looking at his face.
7. At the point and time where Mr.Dalton's daughter is looking in the mirror, I would consider that a over the shoulder.

Reaction: In the first half of the film I have seen alot of over the shoulder shots, and close up shots, so you can really see the facial expressions on the peoples faces. The shot that to me I liked the most was in the beginning, when there was a long shot of the city.

Reaction:
My reaction to that quote before I went on to read anymore was maybe Mr. Dalton, was trying to help bigger. As i started to read again you could tell he was only looking out for his family, because he wanted what was right for them.

Native Son By Richard Wright 95-175

Summary:
After Bigger stormed outside of the house, he had about 55 cents and he wanted to go to the movies and he wanted to go over his friends house also. He went to the movies with his friends house, and they watched the movie that had Mr.Dalton's daughter in it, and he was surprised. After the movie had decided to go home, and that is what he did, and he got dressed and waited to go the interview. Now it was time for him to leave his house, and he did. When he arrived at Mr.Daltons mansion he didnt know if he should go through the back door or the front door. He deicided to go through the front door, and when he eneter he was shocked because he had never seen a place like this before. Then he started talking to Mr. Dalton about he getting the job.

"Leave me alone I have to pack" ( Wright 99)

Reaction:
I think this is the part when it starts to get emotion because this when he starts to seperate himself from his family, because he is on the mission to get a better life for his family

Native Son By Richard Wright 95-175

Native Son by Richard Wright 4-95

Summary:
So at the start of Native Son Bigger and his family wake up one by one, and when the mother and daughter decide to get dressed the two brothers had to turn around. This had to be done because they had a one room apartment. That was the way of life for them, they were poor point blank. After they all changed there was ratthat came out of the wall, and everyone was frighten expect for bigger. He grabbed a skilleted and swung at the rat, but he missed, he had missed a couple of times. The rat tried to bite him but it missed, and fell on its back side, and at that point he had killed the rat, and blood was everywhere on the floor. After that whole scence had ended it was breakfast time and his mother started to talked about how he needed the job from Mr.Dalton. He was upset because his family members put all the pressure on him to get the job because it was the only way for the family to get out of this dirty apartment conditions. After that, he stormed out the house.

Quote:
"Stop prophesying about me" ( Wright 9)

Reaction:
Prophesy; it means to tell you about what will happen in your future. The mother does that to Bigger because she believes the way he acts now will probably send him to be on the streets, making no money when he gets older.

GAME by Walter Dean Myers 55-85

Summary:
The chapeter had started off differently, because it started off with a basketball game, which was very interesting. So, the usually starting five was on the court, but the only difference was Tomas had got the start, as the starting forwars. Which Drew, though tomas didnt earn, it was like he was handed it. Anyways the team they were playing was called a FDA team, which meant they were a team that didnt have one great player, but they play good as a team. FDA teams tend to play zone, so they would make most teams shoot three pointers. They werent very athletic team either thats why zone fit them good, because it was simple to stop people from getting into the lane. Anyways, Drew thinks that this game is a easy win, and when he is in the game he is proving that, but after half time the coach got mad at him, and he stayed on the bench, which was the reason why they lost that game. Drew was feeling bad about himself, because of it.

"What I figure was that as long as it was me doing my thing, a black player on a black team, then it would be about me and the team(Myers 67)"

Reactionary:
I though the quote was interesting because he thought that, that was the only way he would be seen as a star, which i dont think is true, because if you do good in any situation, you will shine. So I think that quote is wrong in a way.
